I love it when Snow-Forecast.com gets it wrong. Only 5-6 inches was expected out of Friday-Saturday’s system, but Portillo Ski Resort in Central Chile was pounded with over 2 feet of snow. Even better news is that more heavy snow is in the forecast starting Wednesday night and could push into Friday. The Chilean ski resort just announced June 29th, 2013 as the opening date for the season, although I predict the road will be closed after this next system.
2 Feet of new snow in Portillo, Chile. Opening day is June 29, 2013
Nearby resorts of the Tres Valles (Valle Nevado, La Parva and El Colorado) also received more than predicted. Over 12 inches was reported on Saturday. While Valle and El Colorado have been open since early June, La Parva plans on opening for the season on June 29th. This weeks predicted system should set them up nicely for opening weekend as long as the winds behave.
