PowderQuest veteran guides Mo Rasiah and Philippe Gautier are heading to ski Antarctica with a team of alumni PowderQuest guests in November 2015. This year will mark the tenth season of Mo and Phil’s guiding with PowderQuest, and what better time to finish their skiing season on the 7th continent. This expedition has been 4 years in the making and has been on their bucket list for over a decade.
“I’ve been dreaming of skiing Antarctica ever since I set foot in Ushuaia over a decade ago, I am proud to have made this dream happen, finally, and with such a fun team!” -Phil Gautier
Mo and Phil met the team members for this upcoming expedition on various PowderQuest trips over the years, and have gathered this eclectic group around the common goal of exploring and skiing on Antarctica.
That is the beauty of the PowderQuest family, where every trips starts with a group of individuals and ends in a team of friends defined by the experiences shared along the way. Most of the team made it to the Canadian Rockies this spring where Mo and Phil held a ski mountaineering training session.
We asked two long time PowderQuest guests for a quote or anecdote about their upcoming adventure and this is what we received:
“I’m in awe of the way Phil and Mo read between the lines: that it includes weather reports or ski lines. They infallibly read the snow for the safest yet challenging descent. On our training trip in April 2015 on the glaciers of the Canadian Rockies, their coaching pulled something outta me that lead me to accomplish ascents and descents that I once figured were beyond my abilities. On another note, 3 or 4 years ago, we were at El Arpa. The biggest and most powerful skier of the group hit a hidden rock and avulsed his ACL. The organized rescue effort was the first inkling of how capable these two are. Skiing with a heavy guide pack and years of training and experience paid off that day. Thank you Phil and Mo!”
-Greg O’Neil, Red Lodge Montana, PowderQuest Guest since 2011
“Phil and Mo are the only ones I know willing to outfit my walker with a proper set of crampons. Seriously, Stoked for Antarctica. I can’t think of two better Blokes to hang with and trust my life to at the same time. South America sealed the deal with you Phil and Canada provided the icing on the cake with Mo.”
-Mark Stehr, Telluride Colorado, PowderQuest Guest since 2014
