As flip-flops and short become the norm in North America, south of the equator in Chile, old man winter is just around the corner. Mother Nature has delivered another large May snow storm to the Central Chilean ski resorts Portillo, La Parva, El Colorado and Valle Nevado. Portillo is reporting 20 inches at the hotel.
Another series of large snow storms is expected to push in off the Pacific Ocean this week with potential huge accumulation totals by Sunday. Current forecast are predicting 8 feet or more by Sunday. While Snow-Forecast is famous for over estimating snow totals, even if we see half of what they are forecasting, we are in great shape for an epic start to the ski season, currently scheduled to kick off the third week of June. So far, after April’s major snow totals, the extended forecast for a strong winter in Chile and Argentina is looking more and more likely.
