We just had a quick Facebook Messenger chat with Anton Sponar from Arpa Cat Skiing in Chile about the current early season conditions at the adventure backcountry operation near the town of Los Andes.
Anton flew down earlier than normal from Aspen last week as the northernly storm grew in intensity. Thanks to upwards of 2 meters of snow and 2 intense days of hard work, Ski Arpa opened on Saturday June 11 for the 2016 ski season.
Anton, how are conditions at Arpa after the big storm?
“Around two meters up top from the storm. One down low. Came with the usual wind. Definitely the most snow I’ve ever seen at this time. It’s our earliest opening date in history and the coverage is the best I have ever seen for June.”
As the team gears up for what they expect to be a busy season of cat skiing, more light snow is starting to fall today. Stay tuned for more updates from Chile’s first adventure cat ski operation.
